The Continuing Adventures of Toots and Sally: Two Women. One Marathon. A Dream.

Denim Day event-
Make a social statement with your fashion statement: wear jeans with a purpose! The Denim Day campaign started in 1999 in response to the Italian Supreme Court overturning a rape conviction because the 17 year old victim wore jeans. The justices reasoned that the victim must have helped her attacker (her 45 year old driving instructor) remove her jeans because they were “tight,” thereby implying her consent. Italian women protested the decision by wearing jeans and every year since the ruling, activist groups in the United Sates have participated in the Denim Day Campaign.

Between work, Punxsk8erdude’s school & soccer, home, my dad, and longer training runs along with “all other duties as assigned”…I’m just grasping for any “free” moments that I can have. I almost didn’t do my long run this weekend…simply because I just ran out of time. I managed to ”moved things around”, compromised time with others, and just ignored other “to do’s” to cram this 16 miler in. Three hours later I was done…even managed to down a glass of bubbly with Pita. Today I just hurt. On the plus side, even though I’m sore today, the runs seems to be getting easier for me…I don’t panic at the distance anymore. Instead I just panic at not having enough time to fit all my runs in. I’m more than halfway, it will be over soon, I just want to get this one (marathon) done.
Lumpy, can you add a countdown for me? I really need one. A weather thingy would be nice too.
Oh and by-the-way, Lumpy, why can’t I comment on your last entry? I get a “Comments are currently closed.” message.
Or awfully close to zero–The Sally, DAWG, and I had a nice little trail run at Hyland today. Heck, I think I even suggested it. (Shocking, I know!) And while I can keep up for the first 2 miles, that’s where The Sally and I diverge. I might be able to Jedi my way through the next 1-2 miles, but that’s it. I’m essentially back to the zero mark–between my knee issues and general apathy towards anything involving physical activity since You-Know-What.
I’m not talking about Voldemort, either.
The anniversary of You-Know-What is just two measly days away. I’ll expand on it then.
’nuff said.
I got the application to go back to Russia last weekend! It’s complete, I just have to rewrite my résumé according to their format, and it’s going back this week. I already have lesson plans in mind. I also keep forgetting to take a photo of my mucky trail runners and gaiters, but I’m sure I have another few weeks of muddy trail running.
There’s a 25k and a 5k next weekend. I’m opting for the 5k, since I still don’t totally have my trail lungs back!
Today I did the short loop at Jensen again. Again it was delightfully mucky, and again the dog got worn out! I thought I had my trail lungs back already, but I guess not, because I was panting harder than G. My legs were great, felt really strong, but no inhaler known to humankind could have saved my lungs today.
Tonight I had my first Running for Women class. This promises to be one of my best/favorite ever teaching experiences. Seven are signed up, three came tonight, and I’m super excited!!! We did a short run, I showed them some basic core building exercises that will make them stronger overall and stronger runners, as well as prevent injury.
The only thing aggravating today…we’re under a winter weather advisory as of tomorrow through Sunday. You know winter needs to be over when I, Sally, the original snow/winter queen is no longer desirous of winter weather. ENOUGH!
Lumpy and I decided to do a long bike ride on Saturday due to the gorgeous weather, then I decided that was not enough, and Guinness was looking restless, so I took her trail running at Hyland. It was wonderfully muddly and puddly and all sorts of dirty goodness. I’ll add a photo of my shoes later.
This afternoon I left work early (I ACTUALLY HAD NOTHING TO DO), and I just took G for a short spin. Ran into her boyfriend, the postal worker, and chatted, and soon I leave for She Runs practice. The board drama should be coming to a head at this evening’s meeting, and I’ll post about it if it’s good stuff.
Keep it up, Toots!
For some strange reason I don’t remember any of my previous 15 milers. I thought about this as I tried to figure out what route to take to complete my 15 miler yesterday…. So in the interest of saving time and as a matter of convenience I decided to run the same 5 mile loop around my house 3 times. I was a little weary of the repetitive loops, but it went surprisingly well despite the heat (mid 80’s) - it helped that the humidity was actually low. I had a sudden burst of energy during the last 3.5 miles and I was able to finish strong. I took a quick shower, had a glass of wine, then went into town for a little soiree. Today, I took it easy, just hung out with Pito and Pita all day.
uh huh. Just like all those times you rode just a little too fast on the scooter while I was attached to the furry four-legger.
She Runs is up and running (har har) and we’ve got 3 girls again, today 4 with a guest, and it’s going well. I love doing this; it gives me a total high every practice. We’re planning better together this session as mentors and doing everything I wished we could have done last time. That means that this fall can only be another improvement! There’s a bit of drama going on with the board, but I’ll post about it after this weekend or the next meeting.
My dinner/ball/event this evening was for the community ed teachers. I’m supposed to be teaching French I again, but the registrations are low, so that may be canceled, and my running for women class will probably just make the cut.
Last exciting news Lumpy and I are thinking about doing the Mont Blanc REI trip this summer, attached to the end of me going to Russia, which I am hoping/planning to do again this year. MONT BLANC!!!!
This weekend I’m not sure what I’m going to run, I’m just going to be sure I’m out there.
