Earth Hour

Not about running, but:

On Saturday, March 29, 2008, Earth Hour invites people around the world to turn off their lights for one hour - from 8:00pm to 9:00pm in their local time zone. On this day, cities around the world, including Copenhagen, Chicago, Melbourne, Dubai, and Tel Aviv, will hold events to acknowledge their commitment to energy conservation.

So turn off the lights!

Week # 9’s midweek run.

Late afternoon.  7 miles.  86F.  Ugh…summer’s here.

Interesting. Deep. Honest.

PostSecret is an ongoing community art project where people mail
in their secrets anonymously on one side of a homemade postcard.

The sight posts new postcards every Sunday.

Some of my favorite, really stupid phrases:

*I’m kind of a big deal.

*That’s fierce! (Christian from Project Runway)

*Put on your big girl panties and deal with it.

*You’re a little black dog in a big yellow lab world, and no one cares about your troubles. (To Guinness, making sure she understands doggy racism and The Hierarchy)

*How do you like them apples?

*Cake! Pie hole! Now!

*Don’t make me have to RAISE UP!

Yep. I have a little bit of time on my hands today. Actually, I’ve been doing all day and I’m finally sitting down and have a moment to think. Sadly, that’s what came to mind. I do have a good thought about my run to relate. I did a run that should have taken me +/- 45 min, running the whole time and it took me about 45 minutes with 4 walk breaks. I guess that explains why I couldn’t breathe. I still have a bunch of stuff in my chest from my cold and it’s really getting aggravated when I run. Some decent runs considering….

Well, my midweek runs went quite well and as scheduled…the two 3 milers at the gym on the treadmill as usual and a 6 miler around the neighborhood.  As the weekend approached I was actually looking forward to my 13 miler (a half!  already!?!).  Then…things suddenly took a different direction when Pito ended up in the ER again.  He’s fine now, grateful to be back at home (he kissed the door frame of the house as he arrived), but it was pretty much a sleepless weekend.  I still managed to squeeze in a 13 miler 10 miler on Easter Sunday in the late afternoon, but don’t ask me about it because I don’t remember much.  I may have been sleep walking running.  I do; however, remember running around Woodlawn Lake and witnessing the mess that all the Easter Sunday picnicers left in my little running sanctuary…I swear there was trash everywhere!  It was quite pathetic.  It didn’t help that it was a very windy day which attributed to the trash being blown around all over the place…onto the street and even into the lake.  Ugh.

I started week #9 today with a quick 3 miler on the treadmill during lunch and another 3.5 miler in the evening at McAllister Park with a couple other soccer mom’s during our punxsk8erdude’s soccer practice.  That was a fun run…I don’t often get the opportunity to run with anyone.  So, thank you, ladies.  I enjoyed your company.  :)

Sick!

Lumpy ran! Lumpy ran!!

Hey Toots, I know I still owe you an email. I have not forgotten. Sorry I have not been asking about training. She Runs starts on Thursday, and I start teaching my new French class and a women’s running class in a few weeks. I hate when none of us have time to post and encourage. How was Sunday’s run?

The big news…Lumpy ran with me on Sunday!! We ended up doing around 4.5-5-ish, the weather was good, Dawg was covered in slush (causing me to cut most of the fur off of her appendages), and the path was mostly ours. Welcome back to the world of the fit, Lumpy. We’ve missed you terribly.

So the Trail Mix 25k is in my sights. I won’t sign up yet, because there’s a 5k the next day that is my back up in case my legs are not trail ready by April 19.  I’m planning on running 10-11 this weekend and incorporating some decent hills. It’s still too snowy to get out on trail.

Banana, good luck on the new position, by the way!

Geez, Banana.

I simply hope it’s getting better.

Checking in

Let’s just say it’s been a pretty stressful couple of months.  Pito’s hospitalization really threw us for a loop and I think I’m still trying to get it together.  After spending two weeks living in a hospital, it was hard to get back into swing of thing with my-fiesty 2 year old, work, and school.

My first week back to class earlier this month got interesting.  I got home from work around 1pm, ate lunch and fell asleep soon after.  At 5:45pm (mind you, class starts at 6pm and it takes me at least 30 minutes to get there) I realized I was asleep.  As I got up from the couch, not even realizing I had been sleeping, I had to sit back down because I was sooooooo dizzy that I couldn’t walk straight.  Eventually I made it up and stumbled into the front room claiming that I was going to class.  Drew looked at me puzzled.  Then I threw up.  Lumpy, I know you feel my pain. ;)  Still I insisted on going to class so Drew offered to drive me there.  Along the ride I continued to be sick.  Apparently I requested to go to the ER after I leave class.  We get to my building and I realized that I really couldn’t get up.  So I sent Drew with my paper and some really random directions in search of my class.  He didn’t find it.  Came back for more guidance.  He found it, told my professor I was sick and that I was going to the ER.  From what I gathered later, my classmates tried to convince the professor to let them leave class early so they could visit me at the hospital.  Nice try!  When Drew got back to the car, I was told I canceled my request to go to the ER and chose to go straight home to get in bed.  I went to bed when I got home and slept and slept and slept.  Woke up with a bad headache the next day.  That’s all  I remember.  Guess my body was telling me to chill out.

On the bright side of things, I got a promotion at work!  I was offered the position of Director of Shelter (sounds fancy, eh?).  Right now I’m acting as the Interim Shelter Manager until a few positions are filled and a bunch of us play musical chairs realigning ourselves in our new positions (lots of changes occuring).  However, I’ve been working like crazy trying to piece together a position that was, in essence, a mess.  My coworkers have been really supportive and helpful in this process and I’m greatful that I work with a bunch of awesome women!  Go us!

Hopefully, once things settle down I can venture out for a run.  Graduation is just in a little over a month!  Can’t wait!

woosh.

I did a relatively slow 4.5-5-ish run, then promptly went to the chiropractor. She actually does not mind the sweat! So, I don’t know if I’m training for anything or not, but I am running again as of yesterday, with a small amount of wheezing and hacking.

Oh, and here’s a link to a hilarious French spoof video:
