Biggest Loser

Yeah, we love watching The Biggest Loser.

Excellent quote from the most excellent Jillian

I think the only way to defy the laws of nature is just significant beatings.

I think I found our next group endeavor.

See Jane Run fruitcake relays. ‘Nuff said.

Coworker #1 will never tell you this herself, but

she took first in her division in a climbing competition. Yay! Yay! Yay!

I, myself, ran 9 today. It was not spectacular, but it was not un-spectacular, either. I’m pretty pooped right now, but I know tomorrow I’ll be glad I did this run. Lumpy met me at mile 5 this week, again with dog, beverage, and banana. Not Banana. Miss Priss, the dog, does not like to get her undercarriage wet, so she gave me some trouble, but it was fine. My legs were tired by then and my feet were wet, so we chilled out and brought it home slowishly and steadily. The greatest thing about all of my runs lately is that I seem to be a lot faster, so today seeming “slow” was really my normal long run pace. I am greatly looking forward to the Irish for a Day 5k/10 miler.

To end on a high note…I ultimately gained 10 pounds between the Paris marathon and recent times, and today I weighed myself and I’ve already lost 4 of it, simply by writing down everything I eat in my food log and being extremely vigilant about my portions. Of course, running faster short runs and steady long runs is the best bit.

Running Again

So guys - I’m here in NC visiting the family.  I know it’s a little wrong, but one of the reasons I was so excited about this trip was that I’d get to run outside in decent weather.  It’s been such a long MN winter and every year in Feb I start to despair that it will ever end.  Unlike Lumpy and Sally, I prefer to run in shorts and a tank in 60 degree weather with a stiff breeze.

Well, I woke up to freezing rain this morning. Not quite what I expected when I packed nothing but shorts and tees.  But the rain stopped and it warmed to 39 degrees.  We drove out to the reservoir and I ran a couple of loops while Mother #1 walked the doggies.  That’s right, I ran on a trail!  But a well travelled, remarkably tree root free trail.  It hurt and I’m VERY out of shape but it was WONDERFUL.  I plan to go again tomorrow. And probably the next day too.

Guys, it feels so good to be running again.  So good.  So, so good.  C’mon MN spring…  Whee!!

Italian beef sandwiches and champagne.

That’s really all I have besides four mini Cold Stone Creamery ice cream cakes.

You say it your birthday?!?!

Feliz cumpleanos, Lumpy!   Hope it was well spent.  :)

Random photos illustrating the lost time.

This is Haggis’ treasure trove. We were looking under the couch for a paper that might have gotten lost taken by Haggis to his lair for safekeeping.

This is Lily, thinking she just might score some homemade espresso coffee. She did not realize that cats don’t like ice cream. We let her know, subtly, like we always do.

I heart the 10K.

Boy did I mis TAS!

Well, I ran my 1st 10k EVER this past weekend, the Mitchell Lake Bird Lover’s 10k.  I found out that this year was only the 2nd annual Bird Lover’s 10k, so it’s a relatively new race in San Antonio (no wonder I had never heard of it before…).  Not only did I truly enjoy this racing distance, but the course was really nice too.  Only about 3/4 of a mile was actually road, the rest was easy trail (nothing treacherous), mainly flat with some gentle slopes, and the occasional alligator sighting (don’t ask…I thought I was supposed to be watching for birds…).  The weather was really nice too, almost a little to warm (low 50’s), but good enough for me.  With a 1:03 finishing time, I ended up placing 6th in my age group, not sure how many there were actually in my age group, they only posted the top 10.  I didn’t think that was very fast, but I’ll take it!  :)  Like I said, I really enjoyed this racing distance…I forsee a few more 10k’s in my future.

yay, we’re back!

Man oh man. Running has been golden. Truly golden. Coworker #1, Coworker #2, Lumpy and I ran a 5k today and I did it in 26:20. I’m quite pleased. All of my runs have been great lately, yet I have not been able to post!!!! argh. The next race I’m looking at is the Irish for a Day 5k/10 miler. I am thinking I will do the 10 miler.

More later/tomorrow. I’m off Monday and Wednesday. Perhaps I’ll finally catch up on the rest of my life.

I hurt, I really, really, hurt.

Monday afternoon Guinness and I went for a super short run in the snow. We were having a blast. I WALKED around a corner because it looked treacherous and slick, and promptly fell. I can run 5-6 miles on ice, but the minute I walk I fall?!?! What the hell?!?! There is no justice in this world for me. Back to the story…I actually fell face first and heard my head smack the ground. My forehead. Right above my right eye. I stayed down for a while - I think I was a little bit in shock. Some guy rolled down his window to ask if I was okay and I said, “Well, I don’t know,” so he got out to help me, then left when he thought I was okay. Luckily, there was a woman who had driven up, as well, and she actually drove me AND Guinness home. The kicker is that I was less than a mile from home. I would like to make a list of all the places on my body that hurt right now. (Keep in mind that I’m still recovering from my “sledding incident.”)

1. My head where it impacted the ice.

2. My eye.

3. My chin. From sledding.

4. Both of my shoulders and the muscles that attach the backs of your shoulders to your arms. Especially the right one.

5. My hips.

6. My lower back. Locked up.

7. My neck.

8. My right calf.

9. My right knee where it smacked the ice.

10. My butt.

11. The middle of my back, thanks to overcompensating for the rest of my back.

I think that’s it. I’m sure something else will come up. Oh yeah, I forgot the black eye. For chrissake.
