Accomplishment

Congratulations Toots!  Wish I could have been there in person to cheer you on.  You make me sooo proud! [pinching cheeks] :)  Maybe next year we can run one together (and “i guess bibi” too!).

Definition of Accomplishment:  That which completes, perfects, or equips thoroughly; acquirement; attainment; that which constitutes excellence of mind, or elegance of manners, acquired by education or training.

All the performances of human art, at which we look with praise or wonder, are instances of the resistless force of perseverance.
Samuel Johnson

“Studies indicate that the one quality all successful people have is persistence. They’re willing to spend more time accomplishing a task and to perservere in the face of many difficult odds. There’s a very positive relationship between people’s ability to accomplish any task and the time they’re willing to spend on it.”
Dr. Joyce Brothers

“Behind every great accomplishment, there is an even greater opportunity.”
Michelle C. Ustaszeski

Finally…a PR!!!

I finally did it, here in the Big D!  Mother Nature helped Sister Moon align all the stars to get the weather just right…cold, overcast and a little breezy with just the slightest drizzle…perfect weather conditions in my book!  :)  A 4:38 finish…20 minutes faster than San Antonio and almost an hour faster than Paris.  I’ll post more about it later.  Right now thanks are in order.  Thank you, Tomate & Punxsk8erdude for the support and for making it easy to train for this marathon…I know I neglected you sometimes in order to “get my runs in”.  Thank you, Banana, I see you were tracking me along the way (you don’t know it yet, but you were with me at the start and for about the 1st 6 miles).  I can’t wait for you to run your first…I’ll definitely be there with you!  Thank you, Coworker #1, for the encouragement and well wishes.  Thanks, everyone else, for the well wishes and for letting me rant on about this marathon.  Thank you “I guess bibi” for running my last training run with me - I know there’s also a marathon in you somewhere.  Also thanks, “I guess bibi”, Jason & Alex for being there for me and for putting me up for the weekend.  Thank Mima too!  Thank you Sally and Lumpy for coming down south to bear this hot and treacherous weather (nice change of weather today, no?) to cheer me on - means the world to me.  Oh, yeah, those post race bistec tacos rocked!!!  :)  Still soaking it in…write about it some more later.

GO TOOTS!!!

You’re gonna be awesome!  I’m thinking about you and sending good vibes from the frozen north…

Enjoy, can’t wait to hear all about it!

Toots is looking good.

Aging gracefully, I  mean. Just kidding.

Dinner last night was great, her sister and sister’s husband bought the birthday girls dinner and gifts, and honestly, I feel quite spoiled. Every birthday gets better.

We are leaving in a little while to pick up The Race Packet of The Toots. After that, to REI for GU and BodyGlide. It’s supposed to rain on marathon day, but we’re prepared with rain gear and good attitudes.  Tomorrow night we formulate The Support Crew/Super Fan Plan. And eat pasta. Toots is well-hydrated and is eating plenty of carbs. As a Marathon Team, we’re feeling confident that Our Athlete will accomplish her goals in The Marathon.

P.S.- Huge shout out to the Women’s Museum in Dallas. I want to work there.

Still not ready to try and put into words what running this thing meant to me, so here are some of my favorite fun moments to tide you over: Continue reading ‘Vegas marathon: Highlights’

Happy, Happy!

Happy Birthday to two great women who inspire the rest of us in so many ways.   :)

It doesn’t matter who you are, or where you came from. The ability to triumph begins with you. ALWAYS.

Joyeux anniversaire, les filles!!!

Toots’ and Sally’s birthday is tomorrow. Yep, same birthday. Yep, it’s highly suspect. Yep, they are the yin and yang. Yep, we scare ourselves sometimes.

Lumpy surprised me with my b-day present tonight. It’s bee-yoo-tee-ful. Toots, I’ll see you tomorrow for our birthday dinner. I hope we spend every single one of the rest of them together. Let’s get on with the aging!!!! We’ll wear purple !!!!

Here’s my present…it’s a little blurry…

Plug for feministing, and possibly, eventually, She Runs…

The Future of Feministing!mudflapgal.gifAs Feministing approaches its fourth year anniversary (April 2008!), the gals and I have been giving a lot of thought to the future of the site and what we’d like to accomplish.

I know we’ve alluded before to big changes on the site, and we were waiting for the right moment when we had everything together, to announce them. So here’s the deal, dear readers.

We’re doing a redesign–hopefully to be completed by the new year–that will change Feministing from a blog to a community site where readers and commenters can create their own profiles, blogs, and more. It’s going to bad ass. Here’s just a sampling of stuff that Feministing readers will be able to do when the upgrade is complete:

Create personalized profile pages with (if you’d like)personal info like a photo, interests, your location; a list of all of your comments; a list of posts, forums, and comments that you recommend;

Create your own blog housed on Feministing (if you’re unfamiliar with diaries, check out sites like DailyKos and MyDD) that other readers and commenters will have access to;

Rate posts and comments that you like, and see Feministing posts and diaries that are highly recommended by other users.

And so much more.

We’re really excited about this, because it means that we’ll be community-building, not just blogging. Now, anyone can sign up to create their own diary–but as part of our ongoing effort to bridge online and “real life” activism, we’re also going to be inviting certain women’s organizations to start diaries that we’ll highlight on Feministing. We’re hoping that this will not only help to shine a light on the important work that women are doing across the country, but that it will also get these organizations more involved in online work. But most importantly, we want to do this upgrade so that we can open up Feministing to everyone who wants to get involved. Whether it’s writing a blog, advocating for an organization, or just reading–we want Feministing to be a one-stop online activism shop.

Here’s where you come in. Part of the reason we started taking more ads was so we could afford this upgrade and, in the future, start to pay our writers and tech folk (who do this all for free). We’ve estimated that the upgrade (software and pay for techies) is going to cost us around 5k–no small amount. So were asking for your help. If you come to Feministing and enjoy our content, please, consider making a donation. We want to create the best site that we can for our readers, but we can’t do it alone. If you can’t make a donation, consider sending our call for cash out to feminist friends.

All of us here hope you’re as excited as we are about the upcoming changes to Feministing. We’ll be answering questions in comments about the upgrade–so feel free to ask away.

Thanks, as always, for all of your support. It’s the readers and commenters of Feministing that inspired this move, and we wouldn’t be anywhere without you. Kisses.

I wish I had the camera today.

G and I ran as we usually do. We ran about 4 miles, in the falling snow, over the plowed drifts, getting more of a workout than I planned. Guinness, of course, sailed over the plowed piles as if they were not even there. I wish you could see it. She tucks her ears back, like she does when she is work mode, and sails over the piles just like you would imagine a cartoon dog would. It’s wonderful. I was slow today, but I enjoyed my run so very much. I love snow, I love winter, I love running in winter, and I love my dog. Pure life. Pura vida. La vie comme il faut. Sigh.
