Yuh huh, it really is. Hoorah, peeps. Or peops. I don’t know. So, Toots and I spoke this evening and I wanted to post about my run with G, who has decided she is now half Husky, but there are some other issues at hand that I feel that I should address. Banana, I know you know how important it is to keep shouting this stuff from the rooftops. So, frankly, I will. I’m not afraid, and besides, I do not know who will happen upon our blog, so I feel a responsibility to be loud and aggressive when it comes to possibly saving the lives of women.
Yesterday was the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Read about it here: http://www.un.org/depts/dhl/violence/. You see, this issue is broader than women. It is not always even about women. It’s about men. Once again, MEN RAPE and MEN BEAT AND KILL WOMEN. It’s important to remember that FACT. Do you want to eventually be a victim/survivor of something terrible and have the decision of the court come down to what you were wearing/how much you drank/how much sex you’d had before the incident, or do you want shit to change???? I’m opting for change. And I won’t be quiet. And I won’t be nice about it.
Two old white guys thought it was okay to put their arm around me two different times this weekend at REI. What does that say about white male privilege? I’m the lowly shop girl, so they can touch me at will? I’m still pissed, as you can tell. I didn’t say anything to either of them, but I’m damn sure that they both knew that it was not okay for them to touch me at all, let alone put their arm around me. If this is happening to me, what the hell is happening to more passive women in their jobs?!?!?!?!?! Get angry, women, get really f&$#cking angry. For yourselves.
By the way, I will be making Lumpy, our resident tech geek, aware that we are having problems with the site. He’s in Austin tonight, back tomorrow, and on the issue asap, if I have any say about it!!!! Have a good night, all. I’ve got a run in the morning, lunch with a friend, then class. blech.
