Running. Grass. Good.

It is a well established fact, here, that Salonpas is the Shite Bomb! But, I gotta say, running on dirt, rocks, and grass is even better. As Sally noted , we ran Afton and The Lumpy’s ass was kicked. But it just ain’t the same as 8 miles on pavement. I felt pretty damn good this morning. Not so much by the time I took The TARDIS for a 9 mile spin riding home from work…. But that’s not the point.

Afton is some kick ass trail running, IMO.

To illustrate this point, I offer the following elevation profile of our–nearly–8 mile run at Afton State Park . afton-elevations.gif

That equates to about a total of 1600 feet up and another 1600 feet down, total. That biggest being around mile 4 where we did about a 300+ foot elevation gain. I think Sally called this My Own Personal Hell , except we usually do this down, as opposed to up.

It was a good run. And I thank Sally for pushing me. And I have to say, I’m only running trail from now on…it is just so much more fun!!!

About Lumpy

I'm guilty by association. I'm along for the ride. I'm the crew behind the scenes. Oh, and I'm running along with Toots and Sally.

    LOVE the socks!!!

Sounds like fun…I wish I had spaces like that to run in. Do you think the Nerstrand Big Woods will be as hellish? I’m a little afraid…haven’t had to opportunity to do much hill work. I’m just trying to survive my regular runs….
Are those Adidas trail shoes? They look “cushiony”….

  3. Lumpy says:

Let me see if I can dig up the elevation profile from last year…

  4. Lumpy says:

See, big wood is no where near as hellish…

Oh, Toots, yes. They are Adidas trail shoes. Gore-tex. Not so much “cushiony” though. I think they have a fairly stiff sole.
