I ran again on Wednesday! Same 3 mile route. This time, I ran around 4pm, before I had to get ready to go to class. No rain clouds this time and BOY was it hot! Still I was able to run for a longer distance than the first time. The run was okay. Still trying to get back into a routine now that class is back in session.

I been feeling a little tired. I skipped yesterday’s 4 miler…I don’t know why…I didn’t really get a chance to rest (which was the reason for skipping in the 1st place). It’s been a little hectic. It’s Punxsk8erdude’s 1st week in middle school and that’s been somewhat stressful (for me). Punxsk8erdude was a little anxious the 1st day, but he’s fine now. We’re just trying to get back into the school, work, soccer, Tomate’s weird work schedule, and my running routines and it’s not working out quite as smoothly as I would like it to. Today’s 3 miler was good…squeezed it in during Punxk8erdude’s soccer practice. Depending on how I feel tomorrow, I plan to make up yesterday’s 4 miler. I have to work on Saturday then I have a 9 miler on Sunday. I’m glad Monday’s a holiday because I plan to sleep all day. ![]()
“The bond that links your true family is not one of blood, but of respect and joy in each other’s lives. Rarely do members of one family grow up under the same roof.” -Richard Bach. I thought this quote was apt after my last post.
I ran yesterday before going to school, about 4.5 miles. Brought G, felt good, feeling like I’m back in my game. Ran today, before work, short one, with G, again, once again, feeling like I’m back in my game. I also rode to work today. I’m paying ultra close attention to my knee, and I start physical therapy next week, but so far, so good. Our weather has been perfect…in the morning it’s in the 60’s, so I get to bring Dawg. She’s not quite in running mode- she wears a fur coat year-round, it’s understandable-but, as I’m always posting and saying, life is better with dogs and fur involved. Her eyes are always brighter and her fur is shinier when I take her running. Gorgeous.
“The world is empty if one thinks only of mountains, rivers and cities; but to know someone who thinks and feels with us. Who, though distant, is close to us in spirit. this makes the earth for us an inhabited garden.” - Goethe
Thanks, Toots and Banana, for doing this with us…and now, thanks, coworker #1.
This is simply a post to gush. I LOVE our blog! This is so much fun for me. I was just looking back at some of our former posts–we’re pretty damn funny–I’m jus’ saying. Welcome to Coworker #1!
I’ll actually have a post about running later or tomorrow. Ran yesterday morning, running again in about 10 minutes.
Thanks to Lumpy and Crew for the warm welcome! I’m thrilled to be a part of your group as I navigate the road to 26.2 in Sin City. As you know, this will be my first marathon. A year and a half ago, running to the end of the block was a little too far and the idea of running a marathon? Laughable. With help from Lumpy, Sally and a certain small and furry running partner, well… It’s still kind of laughable. And sometimes I cry about it too. It’s a learning experience, right? A challenge. Mentally and physically. Character building.
In the words of my hero, Benjamin Sisko: “There comes a time in every man’s life when he must stop thinking and start doing.” It’s a process. And I’m doing it. I already have the most important piece of my marathon puzzle figured out: I’ll be dining at the Bellagio’s all-you-can-eat buffet after the race. Even if someone has to carry me there.
This site was originally about The Toots and The Sally. And The Lumpy got involved as resident geek and comic relief. Well, it seems to be a whole lot more than just that. And then there was a Banana! It is about a group of people friends supporting each other in their training and life in general.
It has expanded well beyond just that. And so, we introduce a guest blogger to our “exerslog “, if you will. Please welcome Coworker #1 . You may recall posts from her before, as she joined Sally & Lumpy for some of their long runs preparing for the Paris Marathon ‘07 (Oh, don’t get me started about that debacle). Well, she’s off on her own marathon adventure and we’ve invited her to share her experience here.
And with that…we await her first post.
I wish my run today had been as delightful as Bananana’s. I had a really tough time with the heat today (a little sprinkle would have been nice). Today my legs felt as heavy as lead and my calves we’re really tight…had to stop midrun and stretch them out…I think I need to work on my post run stretching in general. I also don’t think I’ve been hydrating enough…I mean, I ran with a water bottle (the waterfountain is still broken) but it just didn’t seem like it was enough, yet I thought it should have been more than enough for a mere 5 miler. Finally, like Sally, I’ve also been feeling a little on the “chubby” side…I won’t be going on a diet any time soon - BUT, I really need to make wiser food choices. Anyways, I’m “bumming” for the time being…. Here’s hoping to a better week #4.

It was a calm day on August 26, 2007. Salma was napping. I though-”I should run.” So I geared up and went outside. Suddenly, the sound of rolling thunder! I had decided that I would not run in the rain because Florida has horrible lightning storms. I watched the sky. A light drizzle began to fall. I waited. No more thunder. No lightning. I walked to the road and ran. My feet just took off! The rain got a little heavier, but I didn’t care. It felt good–nice and cool.
I thought about the rain as I ran. How symbolic! My first run in a few years. Rain. Renewal of life! Cleansing of the soul! The promise of survival! Water. (Yes, I’m a literary geek.) I sure needed that. This was the emergence of a new beginning for Banana! I took it slow. I walked for some part of it, but as I came closer to the end of my run, my feet embodied a mind of their own even taking me through the front door of my house!
I ache today, but I’m really excited. Can’t wait to get out there again!
And now, a word from our sponsor–Rain/Water:
Water is the formless potential out of which creation
emerged. It is the ocean of unconsciousness enveloping the
islands of consciousness. Water bathes us at birth and again
at death, and in between it washes away sin. It is by turns the
elixir of life or the renewing rain or the devastating flood.
- Scott Russell Sanders, Writing from the Center
Human beings are made up mostly of water, in roughly the same percentage
as water is to the surface of the earth. Our tissues and membranes, our brains and hearts, our sweat and tears–all reflect the same recipe for life, in which efficient use is made of those ingredients available on the surface of the earth. We are 23 percent carbon, 2.6 percent nitrogen, 1.4 percent calcium, 1.1 percent phosphorous, with tiny amounts of roughly three dozen other elements. But above all we are oxygen (61 percent) and hydrogen (10 percent), fused together in the unique molecular combination known as water, which makes up 71 percent of the human body.

Ok so I’ve been a little MIA…just got back from Florida today. Went to visit Banana & Co. to celebrate little Salma’s 2nd birthday…good times…. :) I actually ran a 3 miler in Tampa on a sunny, hot, humid, icky morning and Banana followed along on her bike (to make sure I didn’t get lost in her hood or have to fight off any big lizards).
The rest of the visit mainly consisted of shopping and eating…. Anyway, I haven’t missed any runs this week - ok except for today’s 5 miler which I still plan on making up tomorrow.
Yeah, The Lumpy has been a little AWOL. I was trying to get the site in order after some recent upgrades. But that isn’t my excuse. I guess Paris ruined me a bit.
I haven’t run much at all the since Paris. But I need to. Wait!!! Did I just say “I need to”!?!?
Sally…! What have you done to me!?!? Frack!!!
I spent the morning at The Great Minnesota Get Together . While there, I had the following:
- Mini-Donuts
- Deep Fried Twinkie On-A-Stick
- Deep Fried Fresh Fruit On-A-Stick
- I thought about the Scotch Egg On-A-Stick , but held strong. (I talked a co-worker into it though.)
- Uffda Brat (YUMMMMMMM!)**Definitely get the Lingonberry Ketchup!!!
- Honey Lemonade
- I wanted the Deep Fried Pickle On-A-Stick …but there’s always next year!
Needless to say, I feel gross today. In general…blah…running and doing SOMETHING makes me feel better. SO, as Sally noted earlier ; I ran, she scootered, and Dawg ran.
It felt good. Damn! I liked that…
