I am hearing/feeling a click in my knee and I am thinking I need to go to an orthopedic doctor to be sure I have not broken more cartilage in my knee. I will not be running the Afton 25k, and I am missing running. I hate everyone right now. I miss running, I miss trail, I miss being outside just to be out in the woods, I miss summer as I know it. …and we’re not even buggy yet. I hate. In the words of Lumpy, “Je deteste.” To elaborate, “je deteste tout, et je deteste tout le monde.” If I were in France right now, I would not have this problem. I swear. Lucette’s meals combined with really good wine, could heal the world. I’m jes’ sayin’. But I still hate.

I ran again this afternoon - finally! I barely survived 2 miles & a few sprint exercises. I probably should have run a little later in the day than I did, it was just too hot and humid. Everyday I tell myself that I will go for a run, but it just hasn’t been happening. I take one step outside and I can barely breathe! The temperatures don’t start to drop until right around 11 pm each night but then the humidity skyrockets…I’ve been waking up to 100% humidity…UGH! The humidity is especially bad these days because it’s been raining almost every day…not enough to cool the temperatures though. It rains for about a whole 10 minutes, then the sky clears and the heat wave begins. As reluctant as I am, I guess I’m going to have to hit the treadmill at the gym…I really don’t want to do that. Sally…Lumpy…can I come run with you guys? Banana, it’s probably worse where you’re at so goodluck!
So I’ve been MIA for several weeks. But on the bright side, I’ve taken the first step into marathon-hood…I bought a sports bra! It’s the really nice kind that soaks up the sweat! Oh and I will probably do this 5k (yes count them, 5. 1,2,3,4,5!) thing my organization is having in September. It’s a 5K race to raise money to help victims of domestic violence and sexual assault at our center, Sunrise of Pasco County, Inc. (shameless plug anyone?) www.sunrisepasco.org.
Anyway, back to my homework. booo….
Sally has been hurt and now she is sick. Apparently, the boogieing I did at the disco in Russia, combined with the free-for-all football (soccer to the Americans) game (okay, it was more like rugby), did a number on my knee. The one with not so much cartilage. Not sure if I can run our 25k in July, but I’m surely going to show up and get my damn t-shirt. I might run/walk it. We’ll see. I have a lovely, lovely chest cold now, as well. I’m sure I picked it up in Russia (cuz I know for a fact some of those kids were not washing their hands…) and it’s almost over now, but is not allowing me to run yet. I’ve been cycling to work every day, so my fitness is not entirely lost, but I miss running. I would love to write a post about this weekend’s trail run. Oh well, maybe next month. Tomorrow we are planning on cycling to the Pride fest. REI actually has a booth there and two of my co-workers will be there. woo hoo! I’m off to relax and get ready for bed. Since I’m back, I have been going to bed from 9p - 10p. I love going to bed early.
DAWG and I have been in a Sally-less induced depression. Thusly, we’ve been lacking motivation to post. But we did run, most recently on Sunday. We hit, again, the nearby Hyland Park for a fun little trail run. We made the trail around 8:00am, as that was about the only time during the day it would be cool enough for us to run. Bad Choice!
Bug were out. I kept having bug dive bombing my head the whole time we were out there. I had covered my lower legs with DEET to keep the ticks at bay…however I should have shampooed with DEET. BAH! The bugs were driving me insane. Literally! (Yeah, I know, short drive–but that’s not the point here.)
Oh well…time to enjoy the Minnesota State Bird.
WHAT HAVE YOU ALL BEEN DOING?!?!?! Just kidding. Russia was such a great experience. I did not run as much as I would have liked, but I have improved my teaching techniques and added quite a few activities to my bag of tricks. Right now I am just trying to stay awake until at least 9:00p. I’ll have my photos back tomorrow. Until then…
Sally are you back yet? It seems like you’ve gone an eternity! Aren’t your 2 weeks up yet?
Ok…so I’ve been slacking on my running…I must have signed up for the extended post marathon recovery period.
However, I have been frequenting the gym twice a week during my lunch break at work but have been mainly focusing on the elliptical, cycling, and weight machines. The idea is to maintain aerobic fitness and work on my upper body…the latter needs A LOT of work…ugh! Anyway, I ran today…and I must say that even though it was a scorcher out there, it sure felt good to run again. It was a short one…just a little over 3 miles.
Well, here’s a brief update from Sally in Russia…all the mushy stuff redacted, of course.
Howdy!
I am having a great time so far, miss everyone at home. My students are — just like teaching at home, more or less. We go to Moscow on Sunday and Monday to see the sights, then back to camp for our last few days of teaching. I’m taking lots o’ photos… We have quite a bit of spare time, which is nice, and I’ve gotten back into a running routine. You should see people stare when I go running by. It’s apparently the most amazing sight these people have seen. Hm.
Not much else to tell about yet, and I am not sure if I will get a chance to check email again before I come home…
Sally
So, this begs the question, do people not run in Russia?
