“We’ve fought for equality, and now we have to face the responsibility of getting exhausted in public.” - Kathrine Switzer
“Joanie, if marathons make you look like this, please don’t run any more.” -Joan Benoit’s mother, in a letter, after Joan’s exhausted face appeared in a newspaper photo upon winning Boston in 2:22:43.
“We need to keep breaking down the myths about what women can’t do. It hasn’t been that long since women were first allowed to run the marathon in the Olympics. It’s important to keep expressing ourselves physically.”
…and boy do I feel refreshed. Kinda. Mostly. In a holy-crap-the-marathon-is-coming! kind of way. I’ve been going on fumes lately, and it was a good week off. School, school, and more school is so very stressful that it clouds all of my thinking. I’m somewhat in over my head right now and swimming like hell, yet not getting anywhere. My balance is way off. Yin and yang have left the building.
Eventually, it all comes back to Tucker. I thought maybe Guinness would be so excited to see him that she would run with me today - I had been missing running the pups. It went even better than I thought it would. Guinness even puked and kept going. Now THAT’S dedication. We did a speedy and vigorous three + and got some trail-ish running in. Tucker even ran next to me for a while. It only took about 15 weeks, but now that little turd is learning that I am the leader. I am hoping to run with him the day or so before we leave so that the training can really come full circle. I’m excited about the impending snow. I think it’s a cool way to end this training. To our few fans out there, we will have the laptop with us in Paris with which to post much nonsense.
…and of course I’m already planning our next adventure…
Well, this was to be expected. As we kick off the real final week a training:
Statement as of 1:31 PM CDT on April 02, 2007
… Snow Advisory in effect from 6 am Tuesday to midnight CDT Tuesday night…
The National Weather Service in Twin Cities/Chanhassen has issued a Snow Advisory… which is in effect from 6 am
Tuesday to midnight CDT Tuesday night.
Snow will develop across the Twin Cities metropolitan area Tuesday morning and spread eastward across west central
Wisconsin during the late morning or early afternoon hours. The snow will persist through Tuesday evening. Snow
accumulations of 3 to 5 inches are expected.
A Snow Advisory means that periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. This includes in and near the Twin
Cities metropolitan area. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities… and use caution while driving.
Looks like at least on last romp in the snow.
