And we are still waiting for the rains…

here, quietly sitting in the dark with the glow of the laptop illuminating my face…

Chief: Max, you realize that you’ll be facing every kind of danger imaginable.
Maxwell Smart: And… loving it.

4 humid miles.

The HUMIDITY of it all!!! I ran immediately after work this afternoon in order to avoid the monsoon they were predicting for this afternoon. It’s 20 min til 9p and still no rain….

Are you guys still at the massage therapist?

Let’s just say it was hot.

paleta-de-lima.jpgYeah, got a little toasty out there today…thank goodness for the cool breeze!  I had a great 8 miler, especially once I got the arm motion rythm going.  I forget how much of a difference that can make.  Just as I was finishing my run, the paleta man showed up and I just had to indulge in a paleta de limon.

 Mmmmm…that was refreshing!

Summer’s here.

Yup, summer’s here…this is more of what I’m used to running in though I don’t really enjoy it. I had a good 5 mile run in the late afternnoon, but it was HOT, sunny, humid, and probably a bad ozone day. The air seemed so heavy and dense…it was a little difficult to breathe. Great…I just checked tomorrow’s temperature and it’s supposed to be hotter than today. I’ll be running my 8 miler in the morning…hopefully the temperature & humidity will be a little more agreeable with me then.

6. SHOW YOUR BODY WHO’S BOSS

And now, the next installment of my deconstruction of How to run 50 marathons in 50 days.

Boss HoggIn the Wired piece the Perfect Human they write:

6. SHOW YOUR BODY WHO’S BOSS
“The human body has limitations,” Karnazes says. “The human spirit is boundless.” Your mind, in other words, is your most important muscle. As a running buddy told him: “Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention to arrive safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming: Wow!! What a ride!”

Yeah. This time around I agree.

Homework took over for a few days

I know I’ve been MIA for a while. I had a couple of papers to write. Anyway, here we go!

On encouragement and support:

The object is not to see through one another, but to see one another through. –Peter Devries

People must believe in each other, and feel that it can be done and must be done; in that way they are enormously strong. We must keep up each other’s courage. –Vincent Van Gogh

On will:

The will to win is important, but the will to prepare is vital. –Joe Paterno

To begin is the most important part of any quest, and by far the most courageous. –Plato

Banana?

I’ve been missing your quotes!
