Well, I did my 13 miler yesterday–and Sally her 8 as she mentioned earlier.
I was hesitating about this run for several reasons. Not the least of which was the weather. But also that this has been the apex of my previous training for half-marathons. (Interestingly, on a side note, my first half marathon was The Lakeshore Marathon in Chicago–AND IT WAS A DISASTER. Not from my running or Sally’s for that matter, who ran the whole marathon. But it was a disaster from the stand point that it was horribly managed. And I just came across this REVIEW and APOLOGY. About time…)
Anyhow, I was writing about my 13 miler. It was great actually–despite the weather. The temperature was just bordering on the lower range of my optimal running temperatures. I believe, based on Weather Underground, the air temperature when I ran was about -8°F. Not too cold, but it was the wind chill that was particularly problematic. And this mostly at certain locations around the lakes. Brrrrrr….
In fact, I was fairly well dressed for this most of the time. And quite warm. Here’s a pic of my coat afterward. Note all the white? Yeah, that’s frost on the inside and not dried salt from sweat.
I had a great run and I’m so glad that I pushed forward and finished it (OK, I actually only did 12.87mi per the GPS) despite wanting to give up every time we came near one of our cars along the route. Sally brought along DAWG for the last 8 miles that she ran with me. DAWG loved it the most. She is, to quote Sally, impervious to cold. OR so it would seem. I missed taking a picture of the icicles hanging form her chiny-chin-chin. It was good to have both Sally and DAWG along.
I may post later with my clothing choices for running in this weather. But right now, I want to relax and enjoy some bubbly.
I hope you had a good run too, Toots. Not to long till we can enjoy some real champagne over on the other side of the pond.
Till then, cheers!
