6miles, shorts, I heart running tee, & a sun visor. Cool breeze; therefore, not quite summer, but I think spring is here (at least for the week). The foliage is so confused.

Just chugging along, tearing down that wall one brick at a time. Tough little 3 miler, rushed, at the gym, during lunch break, on the treadmill…need I say more? Â
For anyone out there who doesn’t understand the healing powers of the four-leggers, I feel for you. I ran with DAWG + one today (Tucker), and once again felt the WHEEEEEEEE! of running. Thank whatever the power is out there for four paws, wonderfully thick, soft fur, cold, wet snouts, and a husky who loves running so much that he whines, sings, and howls in my backyard while waiting for me to change into running gear. And thank that power/energy even more for Guinness, the original Intrusive Snout, who waits patiently for me, watching Tucker go ballistic, wondering why he’s not getting in trouble, then running with absolute glee in the snow piles next to the path while Tucker hauls us along on another crazy trek into the cold. HOLY CRAP, DO I HAVE A GREAT LIFE.
Yesterday’s temperature reached 71 degrees; I heard it would only be in the 50’s today. So…I waited to do my 12 miler today. Even in the 50’s it was quite warm at times…. It’s over, it’s done with, I’m tired.
…one Wall, down.
My apologies to Sally for dragging her down along with it. My bad.
That’s what was in my head today. The whole damn time.
I was frustrated, and that’s really all I want to say about this run.
I’m making up for a dearth of posting, lately. I’ve mostly been working backstage keeping this show running (meaning updating the site software and all).
So today I posted about running a marathon in Antarctica. Well, today’s paper had a story about two Minnesota women runners (and a local male-sound familiar?) who will be running the Antarctica Marathon. A little different from the one I posted about early, but this is still pretty cool. Pun intended.
They have their own blogs
Check’em out. Good luck and stay warm.
I’ve been lax in continuing my review of How to run 50 marathons in 50 days.
So, to continue…
In the Wired piece the Perfect Human they write:
3. FLIRT WITH DISASTER
In 1995, Karnazes ran his first Badwater Ultramarathon, a 135-mile trek that starts in Death Valley, California, in the middle of summer and finishes at the Mt. Whitney Portals, 8,360 feet above sea level. After running 72 miles in 120-degree heat, Karnazes collapsed on the side of the road suffering from hallucinations, diarrhea, and nausea. He had pushed himself to the point of death to find out whether he was strong enough to survive. He was. Though he didn’t finish the race that year, Karnazes came back the next and placed 10th. He won it on his fifth attempt, in 2004. “Somewhere along the line, we seem to have confused comfort with happiness,” he says.
I’ve been staring at a wall for the last week or so. My legs are tired and achy. Not just after running, but when I wake up in the morning. As we move toward the one third mark of training, I’m feeling stuck. My training has been pretty good up to this point. However I’m right now nearing a breaking point I think. And no manner of Jedi mind tricks seem to be working.
What have I been doing wrong? I keep asking myself. Maybe I have been running to hard. Too fast. Hal says to run slower. But I’m running at a comfortable pace. Most of the time. (Note to self, don’t post and watch a show about The Information Paradox at the same time. Too distracting.)
I’ve been adjusting my training days a bit. Today, I will run the 12 miler that brings the first third of training to an end. It works out better this way, so Sally and I can coordinate our long run days more easily. It has to get better after today.
Today, I must tear down this wall.
