Takin’ a break.

I took some days off. I finally realized, after 4 marathons, that taking time off when you are sluggish and sore and tired is a good thing, and that making myself feel bad is not the best training tool. It started snowing today, so I am sure I’ll go tomorrow, but, frankly, it has been nice to not run. This coming week will be more intense, so I think I made the right decision to lounge about for a few days. Here’s to ‘07 being full of running, four-leggers, more learning, and lots more reading. …and now for my glass of champagne.

Okay. I did my 5.

I did my 5 and this was how it looked for me for most of the run.

Okay…okay, I did most of my run. 4.85 miles.

And, as expected, it starts snowing AFTER my run. Feh. I hate global warming.

Last run of the year….

I’m glad to say yesterday’s run was a good one, no rain form me but nice cool damp weather instead.  I squeezed in my 5 miler in the evening after Miguel’s soccer tournament, bidding farewell to Banana before she took off to Tampa, and getting ready for a night out in town.  It was a good run…for safety’s sake I ran loops around Woodlawn Lake.  The park was practically mine, only 2 other runners crazy enough to run out in “the cold” (50’s) on a Saturday evening when the Longhorns were playing here in town of all things!  Well, got to get ready for tonight’s “fiesta”.

MAY YOUR FUTURE RUNS BE FABULOUS, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

I hate the rain.

I pushed back my 5 miler from yesterday to today, with the dim hope that the weather would improve slightly. Feh! It’s the final day of December, 2006 and it is near 40°F and raining. RAINING I tell you! This is Minnesota in December. I should be winding my way through the maze of shoveled sidewalks with 3 foot snow piles to the sides.

Instead, I’ll be trudging through a cool, wet, puddle strewn 5 miles.

I hate the rain.

I’m skipping my 3.

I’ll run my 5 tomorrow.

’nuff said.

It’s late…midnight to be exact

I’m tired…legs sore…TGIF(tomorrow that is)!  Yeah!!!  I had a good solid 3 mile run today…took my time, concentrated on just breathing.  Breathing is a good thing.  Anyway, the majority of the familia is gone, soon my daily schedule should be returning to some sort of normalcy and I will be getting a somewhat decent amount of sleep - yeah, right!

I have PMS.

I came home from work today and realized that between PMS, not enough sunshine/needing to put my head under the UV lamp, and learning too much about gender disparity and race relations in the U.S. today, then watching a show that showed blatant racism, I decided I should not run. Graduate school may have ruined me for all eternity for “real life.” I still have to do 800s tomorrow and a pace run on Saturday and didn’t want to throw away a run and just feel bad about myself, so Sally is sittin’ it out. Taking one for the team, as it were. AND I DON’T FEEL BAD.

1. BE AUDACIOUS

As written earlier

In the Wired piece the Perfect Human they write:

1. BE AUDACIOUS
Finding the right challenge is the first challenge. “Any goal worth achieving involves an element of risk,” Karnazes says in his autobiography, Ultramarathon Man: Confessions of an All-Night Runner. Risk, yes, and creativity too. For instance, looking for the ultimate endurance running challenge, in 1995 Karnazes entered a 199-mile relay race – by himself. He competed against eight teams of 12 and finished eighth.

Okay…that’s just stupid. In this case a lot of people might take “being audacious” with “being brave”. Well, there’s s fine line between bravery and stupidity. And running a 199 mile relay pace as a one person relay team crosses the line into stupidity. Or so sez Lumpy.

Well, no one is trying to kill me….

I impose all torture on myself….  While yesterday’s 3 miler was uneventful, I’m with you Lumpy, my 4 miler today was well, let’s just say not so good and I did it on a treadmill…ugh.  I won’t blame it on any furry creatures (or on Sally) instead I will blame it on the tamale and chile relleno overload - when will the holidays end?!?!  The famila will not stop cooking!!!  I guess I’ll just need to learn to make wiser food choices…well, that’s never fun!  Ok, tired and have sore right calf - need good stretch & massage.  Good night.

Sally is trying to kill me.

So I’m just doing the Hal Higdon Novice marathon training program. I mean, it is my first marathon after all. So I had a nice little 4 miler today. I usually run a 9:00 to 9:30 miles.

Not. Today.

I met up with Sally, Tucker, and Guinness for their last 4 miles. We started around Lake Harriet. Little did I expect to be trying to keep up with the Friggin’ Furry Four-legger Express. I chugged along for the first mile or there abouts. The pain inemt.jpg my chest growing as visions of EMTs danced above my head. I think someone mentioned the GPS (Garmin Forerunner 301) was clocking us at something like 8:15 miles or something absurd like that. Feh.

I had a go with Tucker pulling me along and Guinness happily following along. Like a little train. Musta been my fastest 4 miler ever.

And all ‘cuz Sally is trying to kill me.
